In 1928, Edwyn Wilding (brother of our only Wimbledon champion, Anthony Wilding) married Esther Armstrong of Akitio, Hawke's Bay, and her 'bride price' included four top Angus cows and one outstanding bull, Timber Bay. When the family and their cattle moved to North Canterbury in the 1930s to a property they named Te Mania, it was to be the beginnings of the now highly-regarded Te Mania Angus stud. The property is now in its fourth generation of family ownership, with Edwyn's son, Frank, his son, Tim, and his oldest son, Will, all currently living on the property. The story of this extraordinary family, expect tales of biplanes, true love, the pre-World War One Riviera, Wimbledon, generations of warriors, war heroes, the exiled Queen of Yugoslavia ...and the blackest cattle you've ever seen.
