Hans grew up in post-war Germany as the country dealt with its legacy. He smuggled books into East Berlin, was present in the 1968 student riots, and defended a radical in a German courtroom.
Emigrating to New Zealand in 1984 he again was drawn into a fight for justice and democracy. This is a memoir of conscience and courage.
