Perfect for animal lovers of years 5-6 - maybe even older but I imagine it would be a quick read for older kids. There is lots of action in it which moves it along quickly but it is also a story about the main character (Zac) and his troubled relationship with his dad. His dad is a real ‘action-man’ - hunting, fishing, shooting etc, while Zac likes to stay at home and play video games. Ultimately though, some of the skills Zac learnt gaming proves to be of use to him in the real world.
Recommended - and a NZ title
Night was falling, dark and dank. The dog stood beside the wreckage, gazing up at the sky. Slowly a large red moon rose over the mountain, flooding the snow in bloody light. Ice lifted her muzzle to the moon and howled, long and sad. When Zac chooses the rescue dog with the startling ice-blue eyes, little does he know the danger and adventure that will unravel as the mystery around the tracking dog becomes a fight for survival against a terrifying enemy.
