Review by Karen (Retired Bookseller) I really enjoyed reading Black Silk & Sympathy, a historical fiction novel by Deborah Challinor.
An engrossing look into colonial life in Sydney in the 1860's. A strong, clever young woman, Tatiana Caldwell, overcomes lifes hurdles to become Sydneys first female undertaker. I found the history and detail of the funeral business fasinating. The story was so absorbing from beginning to end and populated with many entertaining characters.
Black Silk & Sympathy is part one of a trilogy, I'm looking forward to reading more of Tatiana's adventures and colourful life in the future.
